We are excited to
offer a program designed to meet the needs of health care
professionals who want to integrate the benefits of yoga
into the treatment of clients and patients. We have worked
closely with the staff at SVYASA Yoga University to design
a program that provides a practical introduction to
evidence-based yoga therapies.
LOCATION
The program operates at the Prshanti campus health clinics
of SVYASA, where up to 400 patients reside during each
ten-day cycle. The clinic is remarkable for the range of
treatments offered and the integration of yoga with the
modern medical system. SVYASA is at the forefront of yoga
research, working with researchers at institutions
worldwide to provide evidence-based results for yoga
protocols used with patients.
PARTICIPANTS in this program will learn specific yoga
protocols through daily practice, classes and clinical
observation. The ten day program offers health care
professionals an immersion training in therapeutic yoga.
The style of yoga is designed to be accessible to all
patients, regardless of physical condition, addressing
patients' physical, mental and emotional condition.
Participants will gain new tools for intervention,
treatment, and health and wellness programs which integrate
seamlessly with standard physical therapy protocols. The
program includes daily yoga practice, lectures,
clinical rounds, and instruction in protocols for specific
physical and medical conditions. Instruction will be
provided in theory of yoga, integration with medical
practice, asana (yoga positions), paranayama (breathing
techniques), kria (cleansing techniques), sound techniques
and meditation.
Those who attend the program should leave with the
capability to introduce new components into clinical
practice and instruct others on the basic postures and
breathing techniques for a variety of clinical ailments.

center integrating yoga therapies with modern medical
diagnosis and monitoring. Patients are treated for a wide
range of conditions, including cardiac disorders,
stress-reductions, headache, hypertension,
muscular-skeletal disorders, back and neck pain, obesity,
asthma, anxiety, and specific mental health conditions.
As a program participant, you will observe patient intake,
attend daily sessions where patients participate in special
yoga regimens tailored to their particular medical
conditions, and accompany physicians on clinical rounds.

To supplement the clinical portion of the program,
participants will attend lectures on the philosophical and
scientific basis of the yoga practices used at SVYASA. You
will engage in daily guided personal yoga practice,
including pranayama (breathing), asana (postures), kria
(cleansing techniques), chanting and meditation.
SVYASA Yoga University is located outside of Bangalore,
India, on a beautiful, self-contained campus which includes
dormitories, clinics, and research facilities, as well as a
nature preserve, trails and bird sanctuary. SVYASA is the
first university devoted to yoga to be fully accredited by
the government of India. The institution combines clinical
treatments, clinical yoga, laboratory based research, and
Certification, Masters, and Doctoral degree programs.
To supplement the program, we will visit a number of
institutions in Bangalore that work closely with SVYASA
Yoga University. Over thirty major health and science
institutions are located in Bangalore. Among those that
collaborate with SVYASA Yoga University are NIMH (National
Institutes of Mental Health), IISc (Indian Institute of
Science) and Bangalore University.
